This role is remote but requires availability during most EMEA working hours, and some availability during US working hours.
OVERVIEW
Primer is redefining how B2B marketers understand and act on their data. Our platform lets users join disparate datasets, connect siloed marketing and sales tools, and construct automated playbooks for customer acquisition. But the real power of Primer lies in turning insights into action—and that’s where you come in.
After bootstrapping our way to almost $1M in revenue in our first year, Craft Ventures swooped in to lead Seed and Series A rounds as we continued to demonstrate consistent 20.1% MoM growth. Early team members of Carta, Okta, Figma, Masterclass, Segment, Pilot.com, People.AI, and Skyhigh have also joined our investor network.
We are a small and dedicated, distributed team (~20 people), working on making advanced data infrastructure developed at large tech companies accessible to marketing and sales teams around the world. If you are fascinated by the software that powers large technology companies such as Dropbox, but want the challenges and freedom that come with working in a small startup, then a working at Primer might be just the thing for you!
Mission
We’re looking for a Data Scientist who has built and run marketing/growth analytics at companies like Shopify, OpenStore, Wish, OpenDoor, etc. —someone who understands what drives marketing performance and can translate that knowledge into a product. Your work won’t be about one-off dashboards or internal tools. It will be about baking high-impact growth insights directly into Primer’s platform so our customers can make better decisions at scale.
This means two things:
- Deep expertise in growth & performance marketing analytics – You’ve worked on problems like:
- When should performance marketers rotate creative due to ad fatigue?
- What are the most successful campaigns, and how should they be optimized?
- When should we use email vs. paid ads, and how should incentives be structured?
- How do we detect underperforming segments before they become a problem?
- How do we build the right data pipelines to answer these questions in real time?
- Strong experience in productionizing models & algorithms – This isn’t an internal data role. The models you build will be a core part of Primer’s product experience. You’ll take insights and models from 0 to 1—working with messy data, developing robust models, and deploying them into a production environment used by our customers.
But this role isn’t just about marketing analytics—you’ll also work closely with our Audiences & Data team to improve data acquisition, delivery, and match rates. This means taking on challenges like:
- How do we increase data acceptance and match rates in platforms like LinkedIn and Google Ads?
- How do we source and integrate new data types to expand Primer’s dataset?
- How do we use deterministic and probabilistic methods to improve identity resolution and first-party data integration?
If you love taking raw, messy data and turning it into high-leverage insights that impact strategy, this role is for you.
What you’ll do
- Build productized marketing analytics features that help customers optimize performance marketing, creative rotation, audience targeting, and more.
- Develop and deploy production-level models that process real-time marketing data to surface insights inside Primer.
- Design and maintain data pipelines and ETLs to ingest, clean, and transform marketing performance data at scale.
- Work cross-functionally with engineering and product teams to integrate data science-driven insights directly into the customer experience.
- Communicate insights effectively—helping non-technical users make sense of complex marketing and growth trends.
- Analyze and improve match rates into advertising and marketing platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, and Google Ads.
- Identify key factors influencing match rates and develop strategies (e.g., data transformations, normalization techniques) to improve them.
- Assess new data sources to enhance Primer’s repository, ensuring high-quality, relevant data acquisition.
- Develop deterministic and probabilistic approaches to entity resolution, particularly in first-party data onboarding.
- Plan, execute, and manage data projects with cloud-native platforms and advanced solutions.
- Design, implement, and maintain data pipelines.
- Communicate complex concepts and hypothesis to a non-technical audience through digital storytelling.
- Coordinate research and analysis activities, utilizing various data points (structured and unstructured) and employ programming to clean, normalize, and organize the data.
- Apply and develop algorithms, scientific methodologies, and statistics to discover and frame relevant problems, hypotheses, and opportunities.
What you’ll need
- 5+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or machine learning, preferably in growth marketing, performance marketing, or revenue analytics.
- Hands-on experience building and deploying production-ready models (not just internal analyses).
- Deep expertise in marketing analytics & growth modeling, including churn prediction, ad fatigue detection, campaign optimization, etc.
- Strong ETL and data engineering skills (experience with dbt, Airflow, or Prefect is a plus).
- Proficiency in Python (Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, Scikit-learn) or similar analytical languages.
- Experience working with modern data visualization tools to communicate insights (Hex, Tableau, Looker, etc.).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment and take projects from 0 → 1.
- Experience working with large data sets and with distributed computing technologies like Hadoop or MapReduce.
- Experience with unit testing, documenting advanced analytics methods, predictive/pattern analysis, and others.
You’ll succeed by having
- Obsession to numbers, statistics and data visualization.
- Proactive and honest communication.
- Successful translation of “tech speak” to “business speak”.
- Excitement in solving the unsolvable.
- Familiarity with marketing concepts and terminology.
- BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related fields, or equivalent work experience.
- Self-discipline and high organization skills to consistently deliver quality work, with little supervision.
What’s in it for you?
- Own a key part of the product – Your work will directly power how B2B marketers make decisions.
- Work at the intersection of growth & data science – This isn’t just another DS role. You’ll be defining how Primer productizes marketing intelligence.
- Flexible & distributed team – Work remotely with a high-trust, outcome-driven culture.
- Competitive comp & equity – We recognize top talent and compensate accordingly.
- Our culture is high-achieving, genuinely kind, and collaborative.
BENEFITS (VARIES BY LOCATION)

- Comprehensive health plans.
